Hi, I clicked on your XXXXX link and found that it worked fine. However, it loaded the XXXXX page in the same window as yours, so I was taken away from your download page, very inconvenient for someone trying to download.

To fix it do this: into the code after the URL. Make sure you save your original page first and work on a copy, then when your copy is done upload it and test it, then save it as the original on your desk top, then upload the new original to your server. Done!

(In this example I use [ ] instead of V brackets, to make this publishable.)

It uses a blog as an example of various types money making paths. Blogs cost nothing and are provided free to build a community on the internet.

First of all you can sell a product directly. Have a website and sell as you would have in a mail order catalogue, except thanks to the internet you can automate most of the process, other than shipping and handling. However this becomes limited when compared to your traditional shoppping mall because while Wal-mart, K-mart, Big-W or whatever can have thousands of products on display, attempting the same on one website becomes very difficult. I do participate in a variation of this same theme and you probably have as well, selling on auction on ebay is a type of direct product selling, courteousy of a third party provider.

Firstly, you will note that there are no direct products for sale. I don't want to ship hundreds of items, I want to leverage my time, so the first thing for sale is a product available through an affliliate. At this stage it doesn't matter who it is for, its the concept that is important here. You don't have to sell a product directly to make money on the internet. You can become an affliliate member which gives you the right to advertise a product and if a sale is made you get a commission - kind of like your old door to door salesperson, but this time the door is via the customers internet. In order to succeed here you need traffic to your website, the more targeted traffic the better. (by targeted I mean something that the customer is looking for, you don't want someone who wants to buy a dog to come to your cat website, as its unlikely to result in a sale). Eventually given enough traffic the sales will come. Remember the higher the cost of the product the less sales are likely, most people are on a restricted budget, but the higher the cost or the product normally the large commission payout. This is a balancing act, if one thing pays out $500 dollars you would only have to sell one a week, if another paids you a $5 commission then you would have to sell hundred to make the same money.

It is important to understand that as an affliliate you are provided with a code embedded into your links which tracks you are being responsible for bringing the company the sale. Hence in any banner, links, code to put in, make sure its your own.

The second item for sale is a viral type of product or similiar to the old MLM's.
In this case GDI - Global domains International, which has the rights over the .ws web address ending (in this case .ws is advertised as standing for website). What they are selling is a hosting service provider as well as a domain name and a variety of other internet services, quite cheaply really considering what your getting. But the real money making deal here is that by signing up others you make a $1 per person per month, and you make another $1 for each person they sign up and so on to five levels deep. Why would a company do this. Because its cheap advertising for them and explodes their growth. In the case of GDI they have made it very clear that they want be the dominant website address .ws, in order to accomplish this they are willing to share money with anyone who helps them grow. By clicking this link the company knows you brought them another customer and your share in the profits. I call it viral because like a virus it catching from one person to a few more to many more, to hundreds, well you get the idea. $1 dollars is not alot, but $1 times 5000 is. Once again you are not selling a product, you are as an agent, and you are not selling a tradtitional goods but in this case a service. This is a viral type or MLM type of system. Often MLM gets a bad rap, but I believe it is because people buy the SYSTEM, instead of buying the PRODUCT, whatever you buy make sure you are happy with the PRODUCT.

The third one is an ebay link. Once again this earns money through affliliate program. It is easy to sign as an affliliate, just look on any web home page and your will normally find a link to "affiliates" In this case the affliliate it run through a third party - commission junction, who acts as an independant company to make sure affliliates are not ripped off, paid on time, etc. This isn't even directly selling a service - its straight out promoting another website.

The four one is EPI - Emerald passport Inc. which is a total online product, namely financial education materials, self improvement, hours of video and audio, information store on line. Its an example of selling INFORMATION online.

Don't think information is valuable consider this short piece of information
for anyone who has sold on ebay.
Do you list a product at $20 or $19.99. Which will make you the most money?

The $19.99! how you ask, because the listing fee difference between $20 and $19.99 is 25 cents (don't tell ebay I told you this, that might lose some of your money). Hence if you list and sell at $20 you earn 24 cents less than the person who listed and sold at $19.99.

How much is this information worth - well at least 24 cents, but to those who sell hundreds of items, much more if they are making this basic mistake and costing themselves money.

Obviously quality information that saves money, creates money or increases your knowledge is important.

Finally you see an short article on clickbank. Like comission junction they act as an afflitate provider and users. This link sells NOTHING yet still makes money. HOW? because anyone who travels down your link to clickbank and joins in makes you a small commission. Once again its a company paying you to advertise, in this case to help them advertise.

A similar thing is google adwords where you are paid to advertise and then pay a small amount per ad click through.

Some other links are included as examples, but you get the picture. Some links make NO money but are their to try and generate traffic, see instantBuzz.com, traffic swarm, etc. Not everyone can be listed in the first pages of a search engine, so you can either accept that fact, be in constant competition to optimise and re-optimise your web page to stay near the top.
There are people willing to do this. Why you may ask? Because the free advertising generated by being in the number one spot is a virtual goldmine and drives huge quantity of traffic to your site, especially if you are listed with a big search engine like google or yahoo. However if you aren't going to be listed high on one of these search engines (in fact sometimes its even hard to be found and cache by these engines) then you are going to need alternative ways to bring traffic to your website. Another option to marketing is to pay for it, like with google ads word. Another is to advertise offline in a variety of traditional media, magazines, newspaper, radio and TV.

That means you should make a new post to your blog at least once per day. But be careful. Too many updates per day can harm your search engines position and hits. What's too many? 10 or more.

4.Post in forums
Post in forums, but don't spam them. Post something fresh and interesting and put a link to your blog in your signature. Don't just post in any forum. For example if you're selling cds, post in forums that are about music and cds. Don't post in car forums if you're selling furniture. By posting in forums you will get one-way links which are good for search engine position in search engines like google or msn or yahoo.

5.Submit to blog search engines
There are masses of search engines available, that list only blogs. Just google for „blog search engines" and you should find at least 20 of them. These blog search engines will help you with targeted traffic. Be sure to write a good title and a good description to your blog, so that people will easily find it and click on your link.

The Right Density
No matter what exact density you choose, it is important to place keywords so that there are more at the beginning and end to produce an hour glass effect. Having the right keyword density in your article makes it more likely that you will make money off of that article because it will rise in the search engine results and be seen by more people.

Since search engines were invented, there has been a constant head to head between the search engine algorithm writers and webmasters. Every time the algorithms changed the webmasters tried to outwit them. The internet is full if conflicting SEO advice on how to achieve top rankings. This article hopes to clear up some of the confusion.
In the beginning it was sufficient to have an adequate amount of keywords on your website in order to rank highly in the search engines. This led to keyword spamming, a practice which still continues today amongst inexperienced webmasters.
Then along came Google and the goal posts shifted. Google put more emphasis on webpage linking, Their thought was simple - if one website had a link to another website, then it was as if the first website was placing a vote of confidence for the second website's content and therefore the second website must be useful and relevant to the readers of the first website. Thus the Google Page Rank was invented.
Soon the webmasters and internet marketers got to work. This saw the emergence of link forms and reciprocal linking sites. Internet marketers declared that the more links that appeared on your site, the higher it would rank in Google. Suddenly link pages from websites started to run into multiple pages as the race was on to exchange links with whoever would agree. Some sites started to have thousands of links point to their sites and began rising in the search engine rankings.
Of course the game of cat and mouse with Google continued as the search engine giant once again changed its algorithms.
It is now widely accepted that previous linking strategies are failing because of what Google now expects from links.
RELEVANCY
Google expects links on a site to be relevant to the readers of the original site.
ONE WAY LINKS
Google gives a much higher priority to one-way links without a reciprocal link in return.
ANCHOR TEXT
It is better for the anchor text (the actual text that contains the link) to be keyword relevant to the content and also to vary as numerous instances of the same anchor text without variance can be interpreted as keyword spamming.
The importance placed on the above factors has all but eliminated the effectiveness of previous linking strategies. Most links on link page directories were exchanged with any site who would reciprocate. Therefore most of these sites were not relevant to the original site.
The reciprocal linking strategy also negates the one-way linking preferred by Google. Most link directories contain the same anchor text in all links, as this anchor text was advertised on the "link to us" page.
Therefore Google now looks upon these reciprocal link directories as having no value. They do not distribute page rank and therefore do not help the ranking of your website.
That is why I now describe article writing as the new SEO Master Tool - please see Part II of this article for the reasoning.

Adware is software that provides advertising, usually in the form of pop ups, and gathers general information, by using cookies, through the user's Internet connection. Adware is often packaged with free downloaded programs. By definition, adware, by itself, is not dangerous, but can fall into the annoying category. Adware can generate constant pop up advertising when the downloaded program is running. It can also place cookies on your computer that will provide information about you when you click on the pop ups or log on to the original program download site. If users register the downloaded program, usually games, and pay the registration fee, the adware disappears. If you download a free program, there is a reasonable probability it will contain some form of adware. So far, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Many people happily trade payment for enduring a few pop up advertisements and don't care if their general Internet surfing habits are being tracked. The problem begins when they become intrusive.
That's when adware becomes spyware.
When adware is expanded to use your computer's resources to steal information, it becomes spyware. Spyware is like the Trojan horse that is discussed on our Virus article. Computer users who are installing a program or swapping files (i.e. music downloads) may also be installing a spyware program whose purpose is to monitor your computer activity and gather your private and confidential information. This includes e-mail addresses, user passwords and certainly any credit card numbers you enter when making a purchase on-line. They can also happily install other spyware programs, hijack your web browser by changing your home page and your browser's search engine. All the time it is sending back information to the bad guys, who will use it for their own advertising purposes, sell it to other bad guys or use it to steal your identity. To do all this, spyware uses your computer's memory resources and bandwidth. This can slow your computer to a crawl, especially if you use memory intensive programs. Spyware is not
good.
Do you have adware and/or spyware on your computer? The chances are absolutely outstanding that you do. This may not be a problem, but sometimes it could be disastrous. Some of the signs that your computer may be infected are:
1. Your web browser looks a little different. New toolbars suddenly appeared. The search engine you use is different. A brand new home page suddenly appeared.
2. Pop up advertisements that aren't related to the web site you are viewing are appearing with disturbing regularity. You click on links that go to nowhere. Ads for pornographic web sites start popping up on your computer. Your "new" search engine produces web sites unrelated to your query.
3. Your Windows desk top takes longer to load than it did in the past. This is because lots of spyware programs have added themselves to the Windows start up procedure and load every time you turn on your computer.
4. Your computer is running slower than normal.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you probably are infected and need to take some action.
There are hundreds of Spyware programs on the market. Most offer a free on-line inspection of your computer to see if any spyware is present. Since their scans always find something, it's a great way to market their product. However, it's probably a good idea to dig a little deeper before making a buying decision.
Some anti-virus programs include adware and spyware elements as part of the basic program. Check yours and see if you have a spyware feature and if it is activated. If it is, and you still are experiencing problems, make sure you have downloaded the latest updates.
At Jamison Software, we look at viruses and spyware as two different problems and have chosen to attack them with two different programs. When selecting a spyware program we looked at numerous reviews and tested several (they all have 30 day free trials) on different computers before making a decision. Spyware and anti-virus programs work basically the same way. They develop large data bases or encyclopedias of known adware and spyware. The computer is scanned against these data bases and the culprits are identified and deleted or placed in a quarantine folder where they can't continue to cause trouble. These data bases are constantly updated in order to keep up with the spyware developers. Good Spyware programs should do two things well. They should maintain great data bases and provide fast, proactive customer service.
Why do we like two programs? Viruses and Spyware are cousins and sometimes there is a gray line between the two. With two data bases, we can sometimes stay ahead of the curve, finding a problem in one program that is actually solved by the other. Here's an example.
We use and highly recommend Spysweeper by Webroot software. One feature of Spysweeper is that it identifies new programs that will start when Windows starts. If no new programs are being installed, this means only one thing-spyware. When that happens, an alert screen appears and there is an option to remove the offending program. Sometimes that procedure is successful and the problem is resolved. However, occasionally the program reappears all by itself in a second or two. We have a virus. That information can be passed on to AVG Anti-virus Systems, our Anti-virus software provider, and within hours an update removing the offender is downloaded and implemented. This happened several times on our test computer (we did not use a firewall to attempt to create just this scenario) and we were very pleased with the results. We also found that Trojan horse files with a .pif suffix were the main culprits.
If you are concerned about spyware, we recommend Spysweeper. We found the data base very thorough and up to date and their customer service team responsive. When we had to upload suspected spyware for their review, they provided detailed, easy to follow instructions.

Most marketing experts will tell you that you need select a niche or a target audience. That you can't just market to "whoever is paying attention" and be successful.

Why is that? Think about it this way: if you are having a conversation with a total stranger, how do you know what to talk about? Unless you are able to find some common ground, the conversation will probably be short-lived.

Because neither of you have an understanding of the other, you must find a way to make a connnection to involve each other into the conversation.

The same holds true for marketing. You must make a connection with your audience if you want them to pay attention and stay around to find out what your product or service is all about.

And, in order to make a connection, you have to know something about them. You have to know what problems they have that you can help to solve. You have to understand them.

That is why it is so important to select a niche or clearly defined target audience. Because once you've selected a distinct group of people you believe you can best help, you can research them so you begin to understand them.

Then and only then can you really communicate effectively with them. And that's what marketing is; communication.

But once you've identified your target or niche, you must also be able to find and market to them.

The first step in doing that is to define them more specifically. How?

My suggestion is to ask yourself the following 10 questions to help develop a very clear description of your target. Then it will become much clearer to you where you can find them.

You may need to make some educated guesses when answering these questions and that's okay. It's a start and you can always refine your answers as your business grows and you begin to understand your target more.

As I go through these 10 questions, I'm going to use an example of a client of mine who is a life coach who wants to help adults who are childhood victims of maltreatment or victimization, improve their health and wellness.

Why am I using this example? Because it is a clearly defined group, BUT these people do not wear a sign around their neck advertising who they are. So, they can be difficult to find and market to. Therefore, it makes a great example.

You can apply these same 10 questions to your business or niche, regardless of what they are. They are universal questions that apply to any type of business or target audience.

1. What is their primary problem you can help solve?

Our life coach needs to clearly identify the current problem her potential clients are dealing with as a result of their childhood maltreatment. That is the problem she can position herself to help them overcome. Is it relationship issues? Is it job issues? Be as specific and focused as possible.

2. Are they primarily male or female?

Our life coach has identified her target as females.

3. How old are they?

Our life coach says they are high functioning professional women. In that case, I'd say we're primarily talking about women between the ages of 25 and 45 years old.

4. Where do they live? What type of community or neighborhood; urban area; suburban area? Also, do you have any geographic limitations (real or self-imposed) regarding where you can market or deliver your services or products?

Professional women could be corporate professionals, doctors, attorneys, entrepreneurs or solo-professionals. Our life coach will need to identify the fields she wishes to focus on, taking into consideration the ones she feels include the greatest number of her target clients.

6. What is their socio-economic status or annual household income?

High functioning professional women are probably enjoying financial success, making them of a higher socio-economic class. They probably earn a good income and enjoy the finer things in life. Money is probably not an issue.

7. How do they spend their leisure time?

Do they belong to a gym or health club? Do they go to the movies or out to dinner frequently? Or, do they have young children and spend their time at elementary school functions, family picnics, children's birthday parties or weekend soccer tournaments? Our life coach may need to make some assumptions here based on what she knows about her target. Again, that's okay to start with. She can always fine-tune this later as she begins to understand these women better.

8. What is their family structure or home environment?

This niche of professional women probably includes single women as well as those who are married and have children. Therefore their home environments may vary. They may have no support or family network. They may have strong family support. Or, they may be having issues with their family based on their past. Our life coach will need to keep this in mind when she selects marketing avenues and writes her marketing messages. She'll want to focus on what they have in common and steer away from areas of abiguity.

9. Do they belong to any associations or professional organizations?

If our life coach selects one or several industries to target, she should be able to easily identify associations or professional organizations these women belong to. Once identified, these are excellent venues for networking and speaking opportunities.

10. What are their media habits?

Do they read the newspaper or magazines? If so, which ones? Listen to the radio? If so, which formats do they likely listen to? Do they watch TV? If so, which programs do they likely watch? Do they spend time on the Internet? If so, what kinds of web sites do you think they are visiting? Where do you think they are currently getting their information about health and wellness? These are all potential places to reach your niche with your marketing message.

Yes, again our life coach may need to make some assumptions. However all of these media can provide you with detailed demographic profiles of their audience. So if we're looking for professional women in a certain geographic area, we'll be able to find out if they are among the audiences for these different mediums.

Answer each of these 10 questions to the best of your ability. Talk to current clients to get insights. Or, talk to friends or colleagues who fit your client profile to gain a better understanding of who and where they are.

Once you build this target client description, you'll have a much better sense of where you can find them.

The next step is putting together a marketing message that speaks directly to them and what they are dealing with. If you have any business or marketing background, or have done any reading on the subject, you have heard of branding in the business context. Let's take a look at what that actually is.

Brands on horses and other livestock in the Old West showed ownership. There was some level of claiming recognition for owning a quality animal, but primarily the point was to keep livestock from being stolen. Branding helped to legally retrieve stolen livestock.

In Europe, brands on horses were not an indication of personal ownership, but rather indicated the horses' affiliations with one of the regional registries.

That idea, which is behind modern-day branding of horses in European-affiliated breeds and some of the other breeds in North America is closer to the concept of business branding. In fact, it IS business branding for the individual horse breed.

So What is Branding Exactly?

It isn't a string of freeze-branded symbols or a set of moose antlers or other breed symbol. Those are likened to a business logo or trademark, but those things aren't brands in the business sense, either.

A brand on a horse signifies everything the breed represents: the quality, history, performance record, origin, and so on. A horse that carries a breed's brand mark ostensibly possesses all of the attributes of the breed, and is theoretically capable of performing to the standard established by that breed association. For example, when you see a horse with a Holsteiner brand (assuming you have familiarity with the mark), you recognize the horse as a Holsteiner. You immediately know a little bit about the horse's lineage, background, and the kinds of activities it might be good at.

That is why some registries require a physical inspection and approval of the individual horse before giving it a brand--the branded horse is a representative of the breed's identity, a walking advertisement. It makes sense for the breed organization to want to control the quality of those advertisements.

Likewise, a brand is the embodiment of all the information connected with a product or service. A brand typically includes a name, logo, and other visual elements and encompasses the set of expectations associated with a product or service which typicaly arise in the minds of people. Logos and such--like brand marks--are a shorthand symbol for the brand. Those marks are meaningless until the brand is built.

Build Your Brand from the Ground Up:

As Chevy Chase's character, Ty Webb, says in Caddyshack, "Be the ball." Live the brand. Branding is everything you and your business represents. You establish a brand through the quality of your horses, your competitive record, the standard of service you provide to your clients, the manner of your business dealings, trust, your reputation. A brand is a business' identity. Consistency in all of these elements builds a brand.

Paradoxically, I am on the fence about whether to brand horses or not. Maybe just the bunny-hugger in my personality coming out, but I think branding hurts the animal.

For your horse business, definitely, branding shouldn't hurt. It might take a little mental stretching to grasp the concept, but the actual establishment and building of your brand need not be painful.

But one thing is certain: There is no end to the branding season for businesses!

However, with spam on the increase-and the upsurge in spam filters to block them- ezines face an increasingly difficult challenge in getting their message through. Even though requested by the reader and featuring content that the reader wants, delivery rates are still a challenge.

With that being said, here are some very important factors to consider and master before one submits their ezine ad.

The subject line is so crucial. If it is not catchy,suggestive of spam and too hyped-you could have the greatest salescopy on earth inside-it still won't get opened. A couple of key suggestions: ask a question that can only be answered by clicking on your link and use dangling sentences.

Interview the publisher-preferably by phone but certainly by email-before you place your ad. There are essential pieces of info to know or you may be soon parted with your money.

I should point out, at this juncture, that there are basically 3 different types of ezine ads. The solo ad (feature ad) is a stand alone mailing that goes out usually 1-3 x a week. How many mailings a week? This is very important for fans of solo ads. The desired answer is no more than TWO otherwise the subscribers are getting bombarded and they will not even open it.

How many new subscribes do you get in a month? You want to know if this is a progressive ezine staying fresh and on the move up each month.

Does the owner have testimonials or references about their ad offers? This goes a long way in indicating whether others have had success, perhaps with similar content and/or product in reaching their targeted audience.

Do they have an archive of past issues? You want to see their content. Would you read it? If you wouldn't be caught dead reading it,then why would your customers?

How many ads in each ezine? This is especially key for those opting for the smallers ads then a solo. Fewer ads means more attention to yours.

How fast will the ad go out? Good ezines have a waiting list. This is always a big clue. A good timeline is 2 weeks to a month and a poor timeline is less than 5 days .

Make sure you subscribe to each ezine you advertise in so that you are guaranteed receiving a copy of your ad. Some will do this for you in advance but many don't.

Make sure you track your ads. Test! Test ! Test !

Do they provide personalization in the subject line and body? This can go a long way in translating to sales conversions.

Will you place my ad in HTML (clickable links) ? This can make a big difference in the attractiveness of the ad's look and result in a lot more views. Perhaps some of your content is only viewable in HTML. You need to know.

Keep in touch with the ezine owner. Many include a second run but if they don't; just be creative and ask for a free solo ad run. Tell them you will track it and if it does well-you and your people will be back. It costs them nothing to do this.

Get an endorsement whenever possible. You will only get if you ask! The publisher has established a bond of trust with his/her readers and their endorsement is like gold. If they are willing -you pay nothing upfront but agree on a split of the net sales profits- that come in off of that ad.This is the "JV" (Joint Venture) of ezines and it can realize extremely lucrative dividends.

Write a testimonial with a sig file or link and send it to the ezine owner. Sign your name with your domain. This is powerful and free advertising all rolled into one !

This headline is both newsworthy and it appeals to the reader's self interest-assuming that the newsletter is going to clients of a nursery, florist and the like and not to an automotive repair shop!

● Appeal to the reader's emotions.
Fear, Pride, Insecurity, Curiosity, Love, Happiness, Boredom, Laziness, and

2. VOLUME NUMBER AND A DATE.

It may seem obvious, but one thing that is consistently overlooked in E-Newsletter publication is the volume number and date. Every newsletter that you send should have a volume number and a date to be consistent. Consistency is key to establishing yourself and your company as a reliable and credible source of information and the kind of company that your customers will return to time and again.

Additionally, by providing a consistent publication date, and volume, you give your readers a method to archive and/or search when they're hunting through old issues for the amazing content that you've supplied them.

By organizing your newsletters by volume and date, you also make it easier to track each issue's effectiveness.

3. THEME

7. LINK TO YOUR WEBSITE

Again, the reason for your newsletter is to sell your product or service. If you don't have at least one link to your website then you're not giving the newsletter the chance to do its job.
